Time to get Green!

Yes, it’s that time of year again – the ime to celebrate all things Irish. March 17 is St. Patricks Day, and the city of Atlanta will once again be “doing it up.” The highlight of the celebration will be the 128th Atlanta St. Patrick’s Day Parade down Peachtree St. on Saturday, March 13.
If you decide to go, stop through Atlanta Underground for the St. Patrick’s Day Festival that includes Irish dance groups, a Barbershop Quartet, magician, bagpipers, an Interactive Zone presented by the Atlanta Hawks and Thrasher’s Street Team, a vendors market and more.
Two thumbs up or down? We shall see.
Posted on March 5, 2010 · Leave a CommentThis is a big movie weekend! Not so much that it’s Oscars weekend, although I do want to see Avatar clean house. I’m also trying to go see two of the new releases coming out – Brooklyn’s Finest and Alice in Wonderland.
Check out the trailer for Tim Burton’s rendition of Alice in Wonderland…
What do you think? Tim Burton movies are hit or miss with me. Batman, Sleepy Hollow, Sweeney Todd…all great! Planet of the Apes, Edward Scissorhands…ehh, not so much. I can dig the whole dark, bizarre theme that he usually goes with. And I hear that there are Lord of the Rings type battle scenes in his version.
Quote of the Day
Posted on March 4, 2010 · Leave a Comment“Adversity causes some men to break; others to break records.”
I just came across this quote on the Internet and thought I’d share it. What it says to me is that there are two types of people: those that crumble under pressure, and those that really dig in and work hard to overcome obstacles and excel. I like to consider myself one of the later group. Wouldn’t we all?
The quote was said by William Arthur Ward, a twentieth-century American poet and writer. I think I’m going to use it as my own personal mantra for now. What do you think? Any other good inspirational quotes out there?
How to Give Your Furniture a Mini-Makover

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m somewhat of a fashion misfit. I just never really developed a good sense for matching colors fashionably. When getting ready to go out in the evening, its not uncommon for my wife to have to send me back to the closet two or three times to “get it right.” Same goes for home décor. If I see a piece of furniture I like, then that’s enough for me. Forget having to match it to five other pieces of furniture.
But I’m learning. I don’t expect to be styling celebrities or decorating vacation homes any time soon, but I soon may not have to ask if my brown shoes are matching my gray pants (that does match, right?). As for the furniture thing, well, that’s coming along too. I’m planning to surprise my wife with a furniture makeover (hey, it’s cheaper than new furniture) so I’m trying to do a little research. I found out that the “in” color for 2010 is turquoise. Who knew? Also, check out these tips I found in the February 25 edition of the Star-Tribune.
With dollars tight these days, and no prospect of buying new furniture, maybe a trendy new sofa outfit is just the ticket to lift winter-weary spirits. (The color-block slipcovers are available at www.surefit.com)
Or, for a smaller wardrobe pick-me-up, how about some hot new threads for a favorite lamp? Stretchable lampshade slipcovers, in florals, geometric patterns and animal prints, are available at www.frockZ.com
A Little Apartment Humor…
Posted on February 27, 2010 · Leave a CommentI just came acros this joke on the Internet and thought I’d share it with you. Very funny! Anyone have any good apartment hunting stories to share? I’d love to hear them.
Bill and Sarah were Londoners and were blessed with seven healthy children. After many months of discussion, they finally decided to move to New York. It should have been a simple enough move, but when they arrived, they had great difficulty finding a suitable apartment to live in.
Although many were big enough, the landlords always seemed to object to such a large family living there. If only Bill wasn’t so honest about the size of his family! After several days of unsuccessful searching, Bill had an idea. He told Sarah to take the four younger children to visit the local cemetery while he went with the older three children to find an apartment. After looking for most of the morning, Bill found a place that was ideal. The landlord asked him, “How many children do you have?”Bill answered with a deep sigh, “Seven . . . but four are with their dear mother in the cemetery.”He got the apartment!

While we’re still feeling the chill from one of Georgia’s coldest winters ever, we can’t can’t forget that summer will be here sooner than we think! If you have little ones at home, you might want to get an early jump on some quality used items, such as toys and bikes.
Check out the Tykes, Tots & Teens website for information on their annual consignment sale going on at the Georgia International Horse Park this weekend. There should be some great bargains to jump on. Let me know if you find anything good!
