Put on your dancing shoes and participate in a pre-Valentine's fundraiser

If you’re looking for a way to make a difference in the community, take a cue from A Friend’s House, a non-profit that aims to gain support for children in “crisis.” This month, they have organized a pre-Valentine’s Day evening of dinner and dancing, an event they are calling the “Day of Love” fundraiser.

A Friend’s House is based in McDonough and provides a refuge to area children who have been displaced under distressing circumstances.  Says director of development Nan Jenkins, “We don’t want to have to be here, but the realization is that there are children out there who are hurting and who are in crisis.” She continues, “…We are glad that we can be here for the children as a place of refuge while they have that need. But we can’t do it without the community’s support.”

The organization has served our county for the last 13 years and is asking residents to donate and raise awareness about its cause.  Their fundraising event will begin at 1 pm with the “All You Need is Love” race – a 5K, one-mile run and tot trot.  This will be followed by the “All You Need is Love” dinner and dancing featuring local band The Sean Shuffler Band.  The race will be supported by many sponsors including Gold’s Gym, NewSole, Fred and Regina Auletta and State Farm.

If you are interested in participating, pre-register by clicking the link here.  The 5K fee is $20, and $20 for the one-mile run.  The tot trot is free for ages 6 and under.  Click the link above for more information and starting times.
